Tips for Packing Items for Storage During Dubai Summers

Dubai summers hit extreme temperatures, so you need to think about heat and humidity before you start packing items for storage; cardboard boxes work fine, but you should pick sturdy ones and tape every seam so dust and sand stay out. Wrap fragile items in bubble wrap or thick paper, not newspaper, because ink can transfer under heat and moisture, and leave a small gap for air at the top of each box instead of stuffing it to the limit. For electronics, remove batteries, back up important data, wipe surfaces, then wrap each device in anti‑static or soft cloth and place it in a box with extra padding on all sides (foam sheets, crumpled packing paper, or towels). Avoid plastic bags for anything that breathes, like clothes, shoes, or fabric; plastic traps moisture and you may find mildew spots after a few months, so you get better results with breathable fabric bags or boxes and a few silica gel pouches tucked inside. Clean and dry every appliance completely before storage, especially fridges, washing machines, and coffee makers, and leave doors slightly open so air flows through and smells do not build up. For wooden furniture, clean the surfaces, let everything dry, then cover each piece with cotton sheets rather than plastic so wood can handle the temperature swings better, and try to keep legs off the floor with pallets or blocks so accidental spills or condensation do not touch them directly. Pack books and documents in smaller boxes because paper becomes heavy very fast; stand books upright, leave a little space, and add silica gel packets to keep humidity under control, while you store important papers in plastic sleeves inside a rigid folder that sits on top. Label every box on at least two sides with its contents and room, and add notes like “top load” or “fragile” so you or movers know how to stack them without crushing lighter items under heavier ones. When you choose a storage unit, look for climate control if you plan to keep electronics, artwork, leather, or photos inside for more than a few weeks in peak summer; if you still go with standard units, stack boxes on pallets, keep a small gap between the wall and your items, and avoid placing heat‑sensitive things near the door where temperature changes more. Pack a small “first access” box with tools, basic cleaning items, spare tape, a marker, and basic hardware so you can reopen and reseal boxes easily on your next visit. If you still search for a place, you can compare different dubai storage facilities and check which ones give you climate‑controlled spaces, good access hours, and clean, dry units that suit the way you pack.
