The six types of Shatkarma in Hatha Yoga—Neti, Dhauti, Nauli, Basti, Kapalbhati, and Trataka—are powerful cleansing techniques designed to purify different internal systems of the body. Neti focuses on nasal cleansing to improve breathing; Dhauti cleanses the digestive tract to remove toxins; Nauli involves abdominal churning to strengthen the core and stimulate digestion; Basti purifies the colon for better elimination; Kapalbhati uses forceful breathing to cleanse the respiratory system; and Trataka enhances concentration through focused gazing. Together, these six purification methods form a complete detoxification system that supports overall health, balances energy, and prepares the practitioner for deeper yogic practices.
